2018 is ending. What is your new year resolution? Eat better, rest more or thinking about weight loss? Do you have some stubborn chronic health issues that you want to resolve instead of taking pills to mask the symptoms? How you rank your priorities to achieve your wellness? You have a goal, then you check your insurance, then you find out that your insurance does not cover acupuncture. Unfortunately, many insurance carriers do not endorse preventative health wellness concept. It comes to a basic question. Do we want the insurance carriers to dictate our healthcare? If not, what is the best way to better manage our own health-care dollars? A Health Saving Account (HSA) is a wonderful answer. The HSA account is a legit way to put aside your money and you take charge of how to spend your own health-care dollars. In order words, you fund your own “health insurance”. Instead of going to the designated medical offices as approved by insurance carrier, you have freedom to choose your favorite alternative medicine provider. HSA is almost like an IRA. The expense spent on the alternative medicine visits are tax-deductible. People who have HSA account are taking fully taking charge how they spend, choose their own health team – acupuncturist, nutritionist, massage therapists – because most of the time, their insurance companies will either not pay for or give them a hard time about reimbursing. You can use the money in your HSA account to pay for these services and it is all tax-deductible. The advantages of this is you have control of your health-care dollars. It is the reality of health-care freedom. On the top of HSA, it is recommended to have a high-deductible catastrophic insurance policy in case of major health emergency.
