Evidence of using herbs to treat infertility dates back to around 2,000 years ago.  In particular, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has been used to treat infertility for thousands of years.

TCM focuses onto the deeper, underlying root of the problem.  TCM believes by balancing the “foundation” of the body to promote Qi (life energy) flows freely throughout the body, the body should be able to correct infertility on its own.

Acupuncture is an effective way of restoring fertility.  It is commonly used as a complementary treatment with Chinese herbs, Western medicine or both.

Acupuncture helps Qi flow through the body along pathways.  Specific acupuncture points are chosen to aid in blood flow to the reproductive organs and stabilizes hormone levels.  This in turn increase ovarian function in women and sperm production in men.

Many studies performed throughout the world show TCM is able to increase the chance of fertility with patients undergoing IVF versus using IVF alone.

Acupuncture also helps with men’s sperm count and sperm quality.  In a study published in Fertility and Sterility in 2005, men who received acupuncture had fewer structural defects in sperm and an increase in the number of normal sperm than men who received no acupuncture.

With the herbal and acupuncture treatments, not only will fertility be restored, but the patient should feel better as a whole because TCM has created balance throughout the entire body.

Practically, we take into account of the Western medical diagnostic techniques and test results to design an effective course of treatment.  Wai Acupuncture understands both Western and Chinese medicine modalities to take advantages of these two medical practices.  When a couple complains of infertility, we would investigate both partners and treat either or both as appropriate.  It is ultimately important that we see both partners until we have determined if the issue is with only one person. Thereafter we can focus on the individual to improve fertility.

You will need to bring all your labs and diagnostic results to your first appointment.  An initial throughout consultation is required for all infertility clients. This program typically employs a combination of NeuroPuncture sessions and specific herbal formulas.
