NeuroScience Acupuncture FAQ
* Please noted that we provide NeuroScience Acupuncture service, which is a system to take acupuncture to the next level and improves the outcome. Visit NeuroScience Acupuncture page for more information – NeuroScience Acupuncture
This advanced system applies knowledge of Neuro Science on top of acupuncture. Many neurological elements are considered.
How long will my first visit take?
About 1.5 hours. There will be some paper work and discussion prior to the treatment . Typically, the body will dip into a relaxation mode 15 minutes after the tiny needles are in place. You don’t want to cut your visit short and miss this experience. Follow up treatments will generally take a minimum of 45 minutes (typically 1 hour). We ask that you plan accordingly.
Can I read or look at my cell phone while getting a treatment?
No, just relax….and we ask your phone be put in silent mode when you are in our clinic.
Does insurance cover acupuncture?
Some insurance companies will cover acupuncture services. Please check our insurance page for more details. You can also fill in your insurance information and our billing staffs will gladly verify the insurance for you. We do NOT accept Medicare, Medicaid, Humana or Care Credit.
What are my payment options?
Cash, all credit cards, HSA and FSA are accepted.
Does acupuncture hurt?
A momentary prick is often felt around the needle as it is inserted, eventually creating a dull pressure or tingling around the area during the treatment. Most people are amazed by how relaxed they feel during and after the treatment. If a needle does hurt, tell your acupuncturist who will be able to adjust or take out the offending needle. Sometimes, needles are not inserted at the site of your pain, for example, if your complaint is neck pain we may use your ankle or wrist not your neck. Sometimes, we may apply local points for treatment. When treating pain, there are times when a certain needle location feels stronger than the others. Give that sensation about 3 seconds to calm down. We call that “a good one” as certain points “talk louder” than others in an effort to promote the healing process.
Is acupuncture safe?
As long as it is performed by a licensed acupuncturist, acupuncture is extremely safe. Acupuncturists are required to use sterile, disposable needles that are discarded after one use. The latest regulations in Florida mandate that acupuncturists must have a Master’s degree in Oriental medicine and pass four National board exams to be licensed.
How many times do I need to come?
On your consultation session, we will discuss the treatment plan that is best for you and your goals. Initially, you may be best served by coming between 2-3 times per week because once we get the healing process started, we don’t want to loose that momentum. We will need to track your progress, and sometimes make adjustments based on your feedback. As your body heals, visits are less frequent. Please visit this page for more detail explanation of this process.
It is important to remember that acupuncture builds on itself, thus chronic conditions may take some time to improve. And the longer you’ve had an illness or condition, (generally) the longer it takes to heal. At Wai Acupuncture, we work hard to get you the quickest results possible.
Is there anything special I need to wear?
Ideally, you would wear loose fitting pants or shorts. Quiet shoes are awesome, too. Once you are seated in the treatment area, take off your shoes/socks, roll up pants/shirt sleeves to knees/elbows. We provide hospital gown as a way to ease access to various body locations. Other than that, just prepare to relax! Acupuncture works best when the body and mind have less to do.
Will it treat my pain?
Yes. Most people report at least 50% pain relief after one treatment, but for others it may take some time. You might also notice improved sleep or less anxiety, all of which are important to the overall healing process.
